Sad Loss of Navy Seals

The news tells us this morning that a helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan and all on board were killed. The loss includes a team of Navy Seals – the same Unit that recently captured Bin Laden. They were evidently on an immediate rescue mission to help a unit of Army Rangers engaged in a firefight. It sounds like the terrorists won this particular battle.

New Movies on Tuesdays

Not sure why all the movies get released on Tuesdays. I don’t usually want to watch a movie on Tuesday night. I prefer to watch a movie on Friday night, when there is nothing good on TV and only if there are no friends to go out clubbing or hanging out with. But I do notice the names of the movies that come out – I’m just not interested in watching them on Tuesdays.

Change for the Sake of Change

So I got the new version of WordPress. Once again, I have to retrain myself to find where to click to get the things I use. It slows me down and is annoying as hell.

The new dashboard looks very different and its not really better for me. Now there is no short, fast click to take me to the text editor so I can write a new post. Sure, you can do the mini post – but they don’t let you assign your post to any categories. So that is useless.

Next time the smart people decide to make changes, how about having a good, useful purpose in mind instead of just changing things for the sake of change?

Too Hot to Cook

I like to grill because I think the food tastes better. And I like being outdoors. Except this whole week it’s close to 100 degrees – even more if you take into consideration the heat index or “feels like” temperature of 125.

When its this hot, the oven heats up the kitchen so much that the whole first floor goes up at least 5 degrees. At least if I’m grilling that keeps the heat outside. Now if I could just show my woman how to make a batch of brownies on the grill.

Fireworks

Always a sucker for free fireworks, I love the Fourth of July. There used to be other events that would have fireworks involved. But, sadly, most of those events have quit doing the fireworks because of the cost.

We used to see fireworks on the Lake a couple of times each year, but that was stopped when the park got sold. Now, about the only way to see fireworks other than downtown on the 4th is to go to a Friday night home game with our local baseball team. They put on a 15 minute show after the games – but only on Friday nights and on opening day.
