Riding the Trails in Maine

Had a business trip to Maine and I thought it would be good to meet up with some friends in the area. We haven’t seen each other in over 2 years and I planned my trip so I could spend two whole days with them.

Took the girls horseback riding at Camp Fairhaven in Brooks, Maine. We had a total BLAST. It was affordable, which helped the old wallet, and the staff were relaxed and very casual about everything. They didn’t make us ride single file on the trail like some places do, and we didn’t have to just walk on the trail – we took a side path for a short distance and found a big flat granite rock to sit on and appreciate the view.

They let us experiment with handling our horses and jumped in to help when the girls got nervous or had any questions. They even let us unsaddle and brush down the horses, which some people might think is just work or chores, but for us it was a treat to spend the time with animals and help take care of them.

It was a good day – I hope I’m not too sore tomorrow!

Gearing Up for the Big Game

Only have a couple more hours to gear up for the Super Bowl party tonight. I am bringing a big platter of BBQ ribs as my part of the pot luck. I’ve been invited to a party at Kurt’s house, down in Brentwood. I’ve never been to his house before, but I know it is big and well furnished as he has been an executive for over 20 years and Brentwood is all high end homes.

Kurt’s wife was nice enough to ask what kind of beer each of us like to drink and she has planned a big spread of super bowl munchies and a buffet dinner for half time. To be honest, this is the first time I’ve been to a Super Bowl party that i didn’t have to BYOB.

Looking forward to watching the game on Kurt’s huge HDTV flat screen and hanging with his home boys. I know most of the guys that will be there, haven’t met many of their wives or girlfriends yet, and it’s kinda cool to be considered part of this group worthy of an invitation.

Nascar

Hell fuck yea! Greg Biffle won the race on Sunday and it was an amazing race. I couldn’t take my eyes off of the TV for most of it, even though I was at a BBQ at my friends house. We pulled his big screen TV out onto the patio to watch the race and enjoy the awesome weather at the same time. It was a really great day. The food was great, and the race was non stop action. The fight to the finish was a really close one. Greg Biffle and Jimmie Johnson fought for the finish in a race that came so very close to a tie.

Ties in racing are next to unheard of what with slow motion cameras to pick up the cars as they cross the finish line, but this one was close. We had to wait for the officials to let us know just who actually won the race. It was really exciting. After the race was over we sat around bullshitting for a while before we all left. I really enjoyed my Sunday off this week. I think the next race I might invite the guys over here to watch it. We shall see.

Tony Stewart

I cannot believe how many fucking races Tony Stewart has won already. He is on fire. As all of you know I am a die hard racing fan and Nascar is the best. My favorite driver is Earnhardt Jr, and he is doing really well this year. He is third in the points standings, even though he hasn’t won a race yet this year. Stewart however is coming up from the back and taking races like a champ. I really want Dale to win a few this year though and I hope he is able to.

Last year he came close so many time but either blew a tire in the last lap or ran out of gas. I was not happy with his pit crew last year, but they certainly seem to be doing better this year. I haven’t heard that he changed any of them out, but if he didn’t he must have gotten up their asses over that shit last year. I know I would have.  I am hoping to be able to make it to at least one race this year, but I don’t know which one it will be. I thought about going to the Homestead race so I can see the last race of the year, but traveling to Florida in November might be difficult. We shall see.

Daytona 500 baby

I can’t fucking wait. Daytona is this weekend and it is going to rock ! I may like football, but Nascar is where my heart lies. There is nothing better than to sit in the stands and feel the rumble of the engines as they go by. I am flying to Daytona to see the race in person. I will stay with some friends who live in Florida, not far from Daytona. Unfortunately they have to work, but I promised to bring them t-shirts from the race. John has offered me his camcorder to take with me to record the race. I haven’t decided if I will do that or not.  It depends on the camcorder. If it will last the whole race than it wont be that bad.

I have pit passes too, which means I will come back with a lot of signatures of my favorite drivers and their crews. I cannot wait to get Dale Jr’s siggy on my hat and Jeff Gordons siggy on my jersey. I am probably going to spend way more money then I should, but what the hell. This shit doesn’t happen all the time and I don’t know what will happen next year so this is it. Take advantage while I can.
