Not a White Christmas Here

Dec 25, 2011 Author Guy

Last year we did have a white Christmas. It snowed for several days before Christmas and it snowed on Christmas Day, too. Not this year! The temperatures have not been below 35 degrees this winter.

We started the day out slow and easy, then we had to go to my mom’s house for dinner. She is a great cook and takes this Christmas dinner thing very seriously. So we all have to get dressed up nice, can’t be late, and have to make an extra effort to not get into an argument with anyone in the family so we don’t upset my mom and ruin her Christmas.

Steak and Lobster

Holiday dinners always seem to be based on turkey or ham. What is up with that? Why don’t we celebrate Christmas dinner with some great T-bone steaks and lobsters? That’s what I’m talking about! Enough with the turkey, people! I want steaks – big, think grilled steaks are my idea of celebrating!

Scrambling Eggs

One thing I learned from watching the Food Network is how to make the perfect scrambled eggs. Like most people, I learned how to cook breakfast from watching my mom cook. Some people might also learn by working in a fast food restaurant or full service restaurant. But I learned from my mom, who put milk in the eggs when she beat them. I learned from the Food Channel that milk or water is not a good thing to add to scrambled eggs. Eggs and added milk or water will separate during the cooking and create wet, overcooked eggs.

New Grill

Can’t believe that any of the stores still have any summer merchandise on the floor, but the few things that are left are marked down big time! I scored tonight at Target. They had a sweet gas grill that originally listed for over $400 marked down to $120. Since it was the last one in the store, the floor model, and it had no box, I talked the guy into even more of a discount and I walked out with a monster new grill for $98! Hell yeah – steaks on the Barbie tonight!

Too Hot to Cook

I like to grill because I think the food tastes better. And I like being outdoors. Except this whole week it’s close to 100 degrees – even more if you take into consideration the heat index or “feels like” temperature of 125.

When its this hot, the oven heats up the kitchen so much that the whole first floor goes up at least 5 degrees. At least if I’m grilling that keeps the heat outside. Now if I could just show my woman how to make a batch of brownies on the grill.
