Time for Pumpkins

Something about the chilly nights and the big harvest moon make me want to go buy some pumpkins and put them on the front porch. I don’t even have any kids to entertain with pumpkin carving, but to me the pumpkin is a seasonal symbol that everyone can embrace. You don’t even have to carve it into a scary face. Just putting a pumpkin on the front porch says that you care about your community and that you are celebrating or at least observing the change of seasons.

This weekend I plan on finding some charity or church that is selling fresh pumpkins and buying a couple. I might even buy an extra one and give it to my neighbor across the street. That old fucker never does anything to decorate his house. Maybe he can’t afford it or maybe he doesn’t think it is important. But if I give him a pumpkin for his front porch, then at least I get to look at it and enjoy the sight of the pumpkin and not just his plain, bare porch with ugly concrete steps.

Of course, if he just tosses it in the trash then I will be pissed off. But that is a possibility when you try to do something nice for people who don’t appreciate it.

Cake or Pie?

If you were going to have a nice dinner with a girl – maybe the first date with her – and you went to a nice restaurant and she wants to order dessert, what would you get? I took it that she wanted to stay at the restaurant a little longer and just keep on talking and getting to know each other while we picked at some dessert and had coffee. So I ordered a slice of pie but she ordered a huge piece of cake called, “Death By chocolate.” Then she only ate about one fourth of the cake and said it was “too rich” for her.

But my pie was good, I didn’t mind that she couldn’t eat all of the cake, but it did kinda bother me that she didn’t take the rest of it home with her. They just cleared the plates away and tossed 3/4 of a good piece of cake into the trash.

Season Passes at the Theme Park

Jun 9, 2012 Author Guy

When we were kids my mom would take us to the big theme park at least 5 or 6 times every summer. I don’t know how she did it. The tickets to the theme park are expensive as hell and she had to pay for not only us three kids but herself and sometimes one or two of our friends.

Not only do you have to fork out a shitload of money for an admission ticket, you have to pay to park the car and you are not allowed to bring any food or drinks into the park with you. You have to pay outrageous prices for the refreshments that they sell inside the park. In today’s money, a coke is like $10 for one drink and a hot dog was like $7.50 for just one fucking hot dog. Of course, when you are there all day long in the heat of summer you get hungry and thirsty, so you have to buy some food and drinks at their outrageous prices.

My mom was a single mom who didn’t get any financial help from my dad, so money was always tight. But somehow she always found a way to get us to fun places on the weekends. She told me once that the season tickets at Kings Dominion were probably the best entertainment money she ever spent. We had so many days of nothing but fun and excitement, and after you go the second time on a season ticket the rest of the times you go are pretty much for free except for the price of refreshments after you get inside the park.

Nascar

Hell fuck yea! Greg Biffle won the race on Sunday and it was an amazing race. I couldn’t take my eyes off of the TV for most of it, even though I was at a BBQ at my friends house. We pulled his big screen TV out onto the patio to watch the race and enjoy the awesome weather at the same time. It was a really great day. The food was great, and the race was non stop action. The fight to the finish was a really close one. Greg Biffle and Jimmie Johnson fought for the finish in a race that came so very close to a tie.

Ties in racing are next to unheard of what with slow motion cameras to pick up the cars as they cross the finish line, but this one was close. We had to wait for the officials to let us know just who actually won the race. It was really exciting. After the race was over we sat around bullshitting for a while before we all left. I really enjoyed my Sunday off this week. I think the next race I might invite the guys over here to watch it. We shall see.

Lunch

I had the most awesome lunch today. Actually it was more like brunch, but I don’t care. I found this little mom and pop restaurant down the road and stopped in. I have been fucking tired of fast food and I pass this place everyday, so I decided to give it a go. They have the best country style food that I have had in a long time. Everything is set up buffet style and is completely homemade. Hell, the owner doesn’t even take credit or debit cards it is so country. Fortunately for me I had some cash on hand, so I didn’t have to run to the bank next door.

I got to have some bacon that was still on the buffet as well as the catfish and other choice items. I still cannot believe that I have passed this little place without stopping for so long. I know that I will be a regular from now on. Micky D’s can stuff it. Home style beats the hell out of that shit any day. If you really want to good meal at reasonable prices, I suggest you stop by BJ’s Country Kitchen. You will really be happy you did, I know I am.
